Costa Rica is home to 216 species of mammals, 109 of which are bats.

The diversity of bats is so great in Costa Rica that, despite its small size,  the country boasts 12% of the world's total number of species.

Tent making bats are common denizens of Drake Bay.  These bats construct their own roosting sites by chewing the veins of large leaves until they fold over... creating a cozy tent.

There are more species of insects in one tropical tree than there are in the entire state of Vermont.
